Fancy Duds

Shopping
We are not dress-up type folks, so the idea of having to dress up for formal nights is a bit out of our league. Typically funerals have been the only time i've worn a dress in the past few years ...

But today we went out shopping, our favorite pasttime, and bought us each 1 item for our cruise. Maria got black flowing pants, very nice, and they are washable! (don't laugh, we aren't dry cleaner visitor types). I got a nice black sequiny type shirt, very pretty. And we purchased a beautiful, sparkly top for mom, she loved it, so we were happy. So, apparently for us, black=formal!

We bought smaller sizes than we are currently, with the hopes that we'll be able to stay on our Weight Watcher's program and drop a size or two before April.

So we have 1/2 an outfit for one of the formal nights, not sure we'll attend both - but the shopping might be a bit more fun than anticipated (I do love to shop!)

Also found a cute little program on touring Rome called ROMA: il primo (ed unico) portale di esplorazione

Hair Gel

Dropped Maria off at the airport today, she's headed for some training in Minnesota. Driving up to the airport there are electronic boards flashing to put hair gel and other liquids in you check in luggage. They also suggested being 3 hours early for the flight to get through check-in (she got through in 10 minutes).

Makes me wonder what things will be like in April, when we have to go international!

Well too early to be too worried about terror alerts right now, we'll have to see how the world is behaving in the Spring.

We still have lots to do in preparation to fly to Italy - passports is one of them. Our first passports were for our trip to New Zealand and Australia (1988), and then we used them for our trip to the UK in 1998. It appears every 10 years (give or take a year) we do a big flying thing. Actually this will be my mother's third flight, apparently she only flies international!

Then there are other decisions to make - what do we do when we arrive in Rome, what do we do on the shore excursions at the ports of call:

  • Naples, Italy - options: Amalfi Coast, Pompei, Sorrento etc.,
  • Rhodes, Greece -
  • Izmir, Turkey
  • Instanbul, Turkey - options Hagia Sophia, Bazaars etc.,
  • Athens, Greece - The Acropolis for sure!
  • Kakatalon, Greece - birthplace of the Olympics
  • Livorno, Italy - FLorence, Pisa, Tuscany etc.,

  • Hagia Sophia and Acropolis:

This is my first blog, it will be to track our planning through our dream vacation - a Mediteranean Cruise in April 2007.

My family (sister, mother and myself) as well as our best friends will be cruising.

So far, the cruise ship is booked (Carnival's brand new ship, the Freedom), the plane tickets purchased through Delta, and our hotel in Rome is set......... and now the hard part - just waiting for April!
